** This eatery has ceased its operation since then.**
Facebook has been really a good marketing channel. I get to know this restaurant via their Facebook fan page. Their initiative to post up their menu and every month's special onto their Facebook page attracted me. The food really look tempting and attractive. They have something special for their customers every day, like they serve laksa on every Thursday and Friday, and some other things else on the specific day too. In Mama Mia Kitchen, they wish to create the home feeling kind of feel where you feel like eating home cooked dishes. The restaurant has a very cozy interior and its very comfortable to dine in the restaurant. The boss was very kind and warm to let their customers to park their cars exactly in front of their restaurant. As we all knew, parking your car in Lorong Selamat has never been an easy job, especially during lunch hour.
Fried Rice Noodles In Singaporean Style (新加坡炒米粉 ,Rm6.90). You can opt to have this to come in a set, simply add Rm2, which includes a bowl of soup of the day, a cup of herbal tea and a small portion of dessert (lychee jelly). The rice noodles (bee hoon) comes in a big portion, and a small plate of sambal chili sauce given. The texture of the bee hoon was quite soft, I would definitely prefer a more springy texture instead.
A small bowl of soup of the day will be given if you order the meal in a set (add on an additional Rm2). We were served with yellow cucumber soup (老黄瓜汤) that day.
The herbal tea that were included in the set meals. The herbal tea available were fig (罗汉果) and chrysanthemum (菊花茶).
Tom Yum Fried Noodles (东炎炒面,Rm6.90). It was rice noodles (bee hoon) by default but I requested them to change to instant noodles for me. It wasn't the ordinary instant noodles, they were much softer and less springy compared to the usual instant noodles, and of course, less oily too. Personally, I think the tom yum noodles were quite sour to me, can you imagine instant noodles in a sourish tom yum sauce ?
Kong Poh Chicken Rice Set (宫保鸡丁饭 ,Rm7.90). The chicken was very nice indeed. They were not greedy in the sense of giving the gravy and the sauce was perfectly okay. The big chunks of chicken cutlets come in a big portion and were perfectly cooked, the texture was kept juicy and tender too. One of the best Kong Poh Chicken Rice I had in Penang. Highly Recommended.
Fried Yam Cake (芋香饼, Rm6). Stuffed with yam paste inside and deep fried until crispy. Crunchy texture on the outside, sweet and strong yam aroma inside. Love this combination.
Pie Tee (新加坡薄饼), a very delicious appetizer, stir fried sweet chinese turnips (mangkuang) with pork (the nyonya style) being stuffed inside a crisply fried cup. A very authentic Nyonya food. I just love the crunchy texture and the natural sweetness found in the turnips. Recommended.
A very interesting picture hidden in the restaurant, you would hardly notice that as the lighting in the restaurant is too bright.....
From what we had today, the food quality seems to be quite stable and consistent, would definitely love to try others out if I had the chance in the future, all the food come in a very affordable price too.
