It was just a couple of days after my visit to James Foo Western Food. If you are staying at Air Itam area then you should be quite familiar with LK Western Food. LK Western Food is located at the Jalan Air Itam, opposite to Chung Ling High School. Their main focus is to serve cheap and good (C&G) western food to Penangites. Parking was tough for me and I believe for others too, especially during peak hours as Air Itam area will be in serious jam. There are a few parking lots available in front of the place but they were insufficient at all. The prices are very affordable and the best part is there would not be any service charge nor government tax added to your bill. Variety-wise, quite a lot but they are more or less the same, as in most of them are either deep-fried or grilled. There is only one pasta dish which might turn pasta lovers down. They do offer more than 45 types of set meals which include a drink (choose from their series of drinks, Taiwanese Pearl Tea is available too), a bowl of soup of the day, a main course and a dessert. They do provide free delivery service too, with every 2 set meals (or above) purchased (terms and conditions applied).
Cream of Mushroom Soup (ala carte - Rm3.80) was included in the set meals. A garlic bread toast was provided as well. The soft garlic bread was horrible in terms of texture but was decent in flavor. It was sufficiently flavored with butter and garlic and sprinkled with some parsley. The mushroom soup was just okay and nothing special in terms of the taste and flavor.
Chicken Maryland (set-Rm 18). The set comes in a rather big portion, topped with a slice of chicken ham and a sausage as well. It works well with Tartar sauce but you can opt for some gravy for Oriental Chicken Chop too. The side dishes were french fries and some fresh greens. The lightly battered chicken was very crispy and has successfully maintained its juiciness too. This would definitely be my choice instead of the Spaghetti Bolognaise. It was a recommendation from my friends and I found it not too shabby.
Spaghetti Bolognaise (set-Rm22). The set was a total disappointment. The spaghetti was so terrible, first, the spaghetti was not fried with the sauce; thus, the flavor from the sauce was not blended well with the spaghetti. I was expecting an "al-dente" texture of spaghetti but it turned out to be the opposite way. Moreover, the Bolognaise sauce was way too sour to my liking. It does not match well with the whole dish. The chicken was another nightmare. The burned chicken cubes (as shown in the pictures) have a weird taste which tasted a bit sweet and salty yet, the oil keep leaking out from the chicken and the bitterness from the burned chicken cubes still unbearable and has ruined the whole dish. The set was totally not worth of the penny spent.
LK Salad (Rm5). This salad was ordered as ala-carte. The salad was nothing but made up of mere fresh vegetables and topped with tonnes of salad dressing (thousand island sauce and mayonnaise). Here comes the problem, the heavily used of salad dressing has caused the salad to be over-flavored (as shown in the picture). It was way too sour to be taken alone and it has irritated my throat due to the sourness.
The two types of desserts offered (included in the set meals). You can either opt for Lychee Jelly or two scoops of ice cream.
Included in the set meals, one can choose from the wide selection of drinks available (value lower than Rm4).
