If you are craving for seafood, especially crabs, but pondering where to go (Tambun sounds so far and Batu Maung will be a bit pricey ?), you might want to consider this place as one of your options. Sea Pearl Lagoon Cafe is located at Tanjung Tokong (Ah Wang Cafe is nearby too), from Prima Tanjung, drive straight up to Tanjung Tokong route, drive pass Tesco Sri Tanjung and look for the first traffic light which you are about to turn right into Jalan Tokong Thai Pak Kong, drive straight until you see a Thai Pak Kong temple on your left. To the right side of the temple is where Sea Pearl Lagoon Cafe located. One of the signature dishes in Sea Pearl Lagoon Cafe is definitely their charcoal baked crabs. Their style of cooking the freshly caught seafood was very simple and homely, this place has been in business for years, yet, they have successfully maintained the quality of the food just like yesteryear. Unlike other seafood restaurants, choices are rather limited here. Service was very good and fast here; price-wise, I'd considered it to be very economical and reasonable. There are ample parking spaces outside the cafe and in front of the Thai Pak Kong temple. Do call them for reservation of tables first to avoid disappointment, especially during weekends.
Charcoal Baked Mud/Meat Crabs (1kg-Rm40, minimal order of 1kg). The crabs were in average sizes and we were served four crabs in total, for 1 kg. Mud crabs are known for the succulent and juicy crab meat; a small but strong bamboo stick was given to us as well, it functions as a crab cracker (crab utensil). I know it sounds a bit rough but everyone does the same thing there, so you do not have to worry about table manners or public behavior. Everything tasted just as those we had many years ago. The aroma of the crab was so tempting and mouth watering, the sweet and juicy crab meat complemented well with the home made chili sauce too.
Hokkien Style Stir Fried Yellow Noodles (Hokkien Char, Rm12 per plate). The portion is fixed and the minimum order is Rm12 for a plate. The noodles come with a lot of pork slices and prawns. It was not that impressive in my opinion, especially the soggy texture of the noodles, and it lacked of a pinch of salt too. Moreover, there was not any sambal chili sauce given to complement the noodles. Other alternative other than noodles will be their seafood fried rice.
Deep Fried Calamari (Rm12 per plate). The calamari were very good in my opinion, the lightly battered fresh and succulent squid rings were deep fried till perfection. It comes with some french fries as well. Simply dip them into the mayonnaise given to add on some extra flavor. Although the portion looks small from the photos, but the calamari rings were very huge in size, good value of money.
Deep Fried Spring Chicken (Rm6 per bird) and Hainanese Spring Roll (Rm3.50 per roll). The spring chicken was okay, crisply deep fried but still maintained the juiciness within the meat. It works well with the chili paste too. As for the Hainanese Spring Roll, I must say that they were very impressive indeed. Skillfully stuffed with fillings and deep fried till crisp, they can definitely satisfy your appetite. Unfortunately, we were not given Worcestershire-Mustard sauce which the Hainanese used to serve with spring rolls, it gives extra marks to the spring rolls, I just love the combination.
Coconut juice is definitely one of the best thirst-quenching drinks in the world. The coconuts here in Sea Pearl Lagoon Cafe was prepackaged and prepared in an appropriate way where one just need to peel off the plastic food wrap and poke through the upper part of the coconut. What's better than having icy cold and rejuvenating coconut juice under a hot weather ?
