Ever since I've tasted Eggette (鸡蛋仔) at Hong Kong earlier ago, I've fallen in love with this light and crunchy snack, especially the texture of crispy and brings a hint of sweetness. Its not easy to find one in Penang, especially the Hong Kong style. Coincidentally, I've seen a dessert house offering one few months ago, but I could not visit due to the location. Situated at those new business shop houses at Bukit Mertajam (same area as Stone Age Cafe and same row as Tong Pak Fu Bukit Mertajam), Sweet Heaven Dessert House offers a wide variety desserts, be it warm desserts or refreshing cold desserts but my recommendation will be on their Eggette. To go to Sweet Heaven Dessert House, from Autocity Juru, drive for five minutes to Bukit Mertajam/ Alma/ Kulim direction (via Seven Village Koay Teow Th'ng/ a.k.a. Qit-Long at Bukit Tengah/ nearby shop houses/ housing residents), you will find a very small roundabout towards the end of the traffic light which you will also find a lot of newly built business shop houses right in front of you, turn left and you should find Sweet Heaven Dessert House on your right hand side. Price-wise, was very reasonable and will definitely be a good value in return. Ample parking spaces available around the area as well.
We first had their Pandan Eggy/ Eggette Waffles (香草鸡蛋仔, Rm 4.50). I wanted to try for their original Eggette earlier ago, but my friends prefer Pandan flavor instead. To my surprise, it was actually pretty good, the Pandan flavor blended well with the Eggette, it was not as "thin" as the one I had in Hong Kong, but the sweetness was perfectly okay for me, the small little "eggs" were moist and full bodied, tho I would prefer the thin and crispy version but this was actually pretty good either. Recommended.
We highly recommend this Yam Eggy/ Eggette Waffles with Ice Cream (芋头鸡蛋仔配雪糕, Rm 5.50). In short, the Yam flavored Eggette was topped with a Vanilla Ice Cream. This was very good indeed, we did try the Yam flavored Eggette itself (without the Ice Cream), it did not impress me a lot, in fact we tried to mix and match the Ice Cream with the Pandan flavored Eggette, it turns out to be so-so only, so with these two flavors, I bet the Vanilla Ice Cream complemented the Yam flavored Eggette the most. It was indeed a good mix between hot-cold dessert. Highly recommended.
On the other hand, their Tofu Hua with Three Toppings (豆腐花配三种配料, Rm 6.50) was rather disappointing. One can choose up to three types of toppings from their selection of toppings, we opted for their Taro Balls, Pearls and Red Beans. The Tofu Hua was not as smooth as I thought, in fact, I would say that they were pretty rough in texture. I can get a better one in Penang. As for their Taro Balls, they were okay in terms of the flavors which were well-maintained (fragrance of Potatoes and Yam was there) but they lacked of the texture, I would slightly prefer them to be more chewy and bouncy.
Macha Snow Ice with Condensed Milk (抹茶雪花冰, Rm 4.90) was normal and nothing worth to shout over. They have well maintained the smooth texture of the Snow Ice (which supposedly they should) and the amount of condensed milk used was just nice, not too sweet nor it was bland.

ReplyDeletehaha, you can find them every where seriously, no worries, but i won't go for their curry fish balls if i were you, the texture was so horrible and i find those in Msia/Singapore are much more better :P
DeleteReally? Hmmm, how come I did not notice them when I was in Hong Kong? LOL!
Deleteyea, go check those roadside stalls out when you are going there next time :P
DeleteI also like chewy taro balls! But I heard that they put in chemicals to make them more chewy, so I don't dare to eat too many nowadays! : )
ReplyDeletei have no idea, i kinda like them when they 1st landed in Penang, but eventually i got bored of these and never intended to eat any Taro balls anymore :(
DeleteI also like those chewy pearls in Chatime or GongCha drinks but again they put in chemicals I heard : (
