Araluen is a very beautiful place in Perth which is 35km (south-east) away from Perth city, the word "Araluen" simply means "Singing Water" in Aboriginal language. In Araluen Botanic Park, visitors get to see all those colorful blooming flowers and breath-taking scenery, so I was there for a day trip, and was introduced to the park's environment and some history. Coincidentally, there was this small little cafeteria up the hill and Ken never let go any chances to hunt for food does he ? Chalet Healy Tearoom offers morning/afternoon teas and lunches and it operates from 10am to 4pm daily. I did not check out their entire lunch menu but I did glance through and I've found out that they do offer some Salads, Chips, Burgers etc but most of them were priced steeply. As for teas, they have a wide selection of pastry cakes and coffee/teas. Prices are reasonable by Perth's standards. Try it out to experience the truly Al-fresco dining experience with amazing breath-taking scenery (especially after the tiring walk/tour around the park).
I had this Green Tea Jasmine for Aud $4 which was decent. Other choices including Chai Tea, Early Grey, Breakfast Tea etc, they do offer a wide variety of Coffee too.
There was an array of Pastry Cakes being displayed but I was not bothered to choose them and instead, I've opted for their Scones (2 for Aud $6.60). A traditional English Afternoon Tea is never counted as complete without Scones. I was given a table number and was asked to take it with me to the table. The Scones and Tea were served shortly, the Scones were still hot when served. I was given some Strawberry Jam and Whipped Cream too. I was totally amazed by the texture of the Whipped Cream, it was so fluffy and soft in texture and has a shiny surface, you should be able to imagine how fresh was the Whipped Cream. I've halved the Scones and spread with the Whipped Cream/ Strawberry Jam and it tasted heavenly delicious. The Scones were moist, fluffy (in fact, too fluffy for me) and have a hint of buttery-vanilla flavor but it lacked of a bite. I would personally prefer a Scone with a slight chewy texture. It gets a hint of sweetness from the Jam (not too sweet, just nice) to complement with my Green Tea Jasmine. Recommended.
My Afternoon Tea was further complemented by the beautiful scenery at Araluen Botanic Park. One can even see the Araluen Train passes by right in front of the cafe's area too. I've spent a lazy afternoon trying to relax/rejuvenate myself and escape from the busy life, how about you ?

DeleteU were in Perth? How nice! I was there for a week just last year. I flew there alone to meet my girlfriend & did nothing but lazing around & eating. Hahaha! There's nothing much to do there for me. Enjoy your vacation!
ReplyDeleteHi Shirley, i'm here to study for my final semester, not for vacation and indeed, it's a boring place, but i'd blame the currencies for everything....Ringgit is too weak against any currencies out there and it makes my life tougher here :(
DeleteWow! I would love to have tea and scones at such a nice place!
ReplyDeleteah yes, its a lovely and cozy place indeed
