Bee Won Korean Food @ Times Square, Penang.

Previously operated in Royal Hotel Penang, Bee Won Korean Restaurant has ceased its operation due to some personal issues and now re-opened their business in Time Gallery, Times Square, Penang. Time Gallery is another name for Times Square's food court which situated at first floor of Times Square. Bee Won Korean Food is now operating at one of the kiosks inside Time Gallery but still under the same management. Vicky Kim, The lady owner of Bee Won Korean Food is a typical Korean, though choices are limited now, but the prices are greatly reduced as compared to before. They do offer some other dishes which can be found in those Korean restaurants too namely Stir Fried Korean Rice Cake, Korean Seafood Pancake, Korean Steamed Egg and Korean Steamed Hot Pot Tofu etc and most of them are reasonably priced, affordable to the public.

Bee Won Korea Food's daily Lunch/Dinner Set (Rm10) comes in a few side dishes and a bowl of Kim Chi Soup. There were 9 side dishes during our visit, just to name a few, Kim Chi (Korean Spicy Pickled Cabbage), Stir Fried Eggs, Sweet Chick Peas, Stir Fried Vegetables, Stir Fried Shredded Potatoes and some Fruit Salad. Most of the side dishes tasted great and one of my favorites was their Stir Fried Shredded Potatoes, with the right crunchiness and reasonably flavored, it makes a good combination with the piping hot rice. However, I find it a bit weird for topping the Fruit Salad on the rice, though the Fruit Salad tasted refreshing and good but the combination just doesn't work in my opinion, it would be better if they could have separated the dish and rice. As for the Sweet Chick Peas, the Chick Peas were a bit too tough for me, I would have preferred something soft and smooth, just like the one I had at Took Bae Kee 2 Korean Restaurant back in Perth, Australia. Lastly, it would be better if they could slightly increase the portion of the rice as my friend finds it a bit small for him.

Bibimbap/ Hot Stone Vegetables Rice (Rm18.90) comes with a bowl of Kim Chi soup as well, just like the Lunch Set above. The soup tasted okay but it needs some re-heat, it was rather cold when it was served to me. If you wish to savor the Hot Stone with Chicken, you will need to add an additional Rm4, Rm4 for Pork and Rm5 for Beef. A small bowl of Korean Chili Paste was given together as a set, you may ask for additional sauce if you find the sauce insufficient but it was just nice for me. The Korean Chili Paste was good and just nice in my opinion, I love the sweetness inside the Chili Paste and it complemented well with the entire dish, or rather, the sauce was believed to be a "soul" to this dish. Topped with a Fried Egg, and some Stir Fried Vegetables, I'd say this dish was delectable just that I find that this price of this dish is slightly on its higher side.
