With the recent hype of the Mille Crepe cake which the word "Crepe" originated from French, meaning to stack few layers of the thin pancake and spread with flavored cream. I have been receiving plenty of complaints regarding Humble Beginnings due to its below-par quality, I have decided to hunt for another eatery/cafe which offers similar product and I have came across this place, The Twelve Cups. The Twelve Cups is a newly opened cafeteria which located at The Whiteaways Arcade, Beach Street (few door steps away from Standard Chartered Bank and opposite to Am Bank/ Maybank). Apart from the palatable Mille Crepe cakes, The Twelve Cups offers distinct and freshly brewed coffee. Price-wise, I'd say reasonable as the prices listed are nett and service was attentive. It has a very good and homely ambiance too, you can even find a couple of comfortable couches towards the end of the place. The only cons would be the parking, do avoid peak hours as the area is always packed with cars.
The high note of the day was this Hokkaido Milk Mille Crepe Cake (Rm 10.50) which I believe to be one of the signature cakes, another notable similar series should be Hokkaido Chocolate Mille Crepe Cake. The cake has a very strong Vanilla-Milky-like flavor and has a slightly chewy texture as compared to Humble Beginnings and Nadeje. Portion-wise, was slightly smaller than I thought it would be. Also, I find the Crepe Cakes here were slightly sweeter than what I was expecting but my friends were perfectly okay with that sweetness. I guess it was balanced up due to his Latte. I'd rank this the best choice out of the 3 flavors we have tasted.
Matcha Mille Crepe Cake (Rm 10.50) was unique and distinctive to others as Red Beans were inserted in between the layers. Matcha flavor was strong, texture/ portion/ sweetness-wise, were similar to Hokkaido Milk. Not a bad choice for those who are seeking a more refreshing and tea-like flavor, it balances up the overall creaminess of the cake too.
The flavor that received the least "like" votes by us was this Golden Almond Mille Crepe Cake (Rm 10.50), which I believe the main reason was it does not possess a distinctive flavor and aroma as compared to others. We just find it indifferent in other words.
Caffe Latte (Rm 9.90) which my friend ordered. I am not a coffee lover and neither do I know how to enjoy a cup of decent coffee. I had a small sip, the Latte was rich and creamy in its own, it tasted bitter too. I have no idea how it works but my friend commented that the coffee was decent.
One big surprised we have received was we were told that we were the 12th customer of the day and we were awarded a cup of complimentary Affogato (worth Rm 6.90), which means "drowned" in Itallian. A scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream was placed on some Espresso, with a drizzle of Caramel. To enjoy this dessert, simply scoop some Ice Cream along with some Espresso. You will be amazed by the combination of both and how the Espresso be further complemented by the smooth and creamy Vanilla Ice Cream.
