I was informed by my colleague about
this little shop here, I have actually passed by for a few times but I just
could not find a slot to give it a shot. Hai Koay Teow Th’ng is situated right
opposite to PISA/SPICE (Penang International Sports Arena), on the way to Relau
and Paya Terubong/ Balik Pulau route. There is a stretch of new shop houses
sitting same row as Public Bank (opposite to PISA/SPICE) and you can find Hai
Koay Teow Th’ng is one of them. From the banner, Hai Koay Teow Th’ng has opened
its first outlet in Golden Lake Hawker Center in Relau and has moved into this
air-conditioned shop since then. Apart from Koay Teow Th’ng, they do have some
other side dishes worth of trying. Parking can be a problem during peak hours
but do take note of their business hour as they will start their business at
3pm until 12am. It could be a very good place for a light supper though.
Koay Teow Th’ng (Soup Version- Rm 3.50)
comes with a relatively big chunks of minced meat and some fish balls. The noodles were
very smooth to my liking but the soup lacked of some sweetness in my opinion.
Portion-wise, was okay, if you are big eater, you may ask for extra up-size of
noodles too (prices are to be listed on the menu). Diners can opt to have more
ingredients added and most of them are priced reasonably.
Koay Teow Th’ng/ Bee Tai Bak (Dry
Version- Rm 3.50) come in a big portion and spoonful of pork lards. A small
bowl of their soup will be provided as well. However, the noodles seemed to be
a tad dry.
We also had Deboned Chicken (Large-
Rm8), apparently diners can choose between Small (Rm 4), Medium (Rm 6) and
Large (Rm 8). The portion was rather small although we had ordered for a large
one. The chicken has a very smooth texture and works well with the Chili Sauce
provided as well as their Soy Sauce. I would personally prefer chicken breast
over chicken thigh as I have never been a fan of chicken thigh (due to the
thick chicken skin), do ask if they can change it to chicken breast for you if
you are not a fan of chicken thigh either.
A meaty meal is never my style; hence, I
had another order of their Blanched Vegetables (Small- Rm 4) to balance up my
diet. The portion was okay, and it comes with some Meat Floss. The vegetables
were cooked perfectly, maintaining the crunch and juiciness. Taste-wise,
nothing much to shout over.
