Chanced upon this unpretentious and quiet little bakery at the newly emerged shop houses at The One, Bayan Lepas. Manning by Chef Nazeri, Wheat Connection Bakery has an impressive and extensive range of French Pastries, Bread, Confectioneries, Cakes to offer. Prices are reasonable and wallet-friendly, this is definitely a place to look for especially for those with a sweet tooth. Honing his culinary arts for many years, Chef Nazeri is an experienced Pastry Chef and down to earth person. I am impressed with the choices of desserts and pastries available in his bakery, some of the notable ones are Creme Brulee, Financier, Eclair, Sourdough Bread, Macaroons just to name a few. The bakery deserves a better recognition from the public. While not every single item in the bakery is as impressive as it seems, do try some of the Chef's recommendations out and I personally recommend their Panna Cotta. I would love to make a second visit for their Creme Brulee too.
I have never tried any Financier before, hence, I've decided to land for their Noisette Financier (Rm 3.50), topped with unsweetened Hazelnut Jam and Almond. The light and moist Financier was more to the sweeter side, no doubt the creamy and rich Hazelnut Jam was able to amp the flavor but it lacked of an "X" factor in my opinion. However, the edges of the Financier was perfectly baked and crisp to my liking. Not a bad choice for afternoon tea I guess.
Chocolate Truffle (Rm 8.50) is something shall not be missed by Chocolate lovers. This cup of dark, rich, creamy and smooth Chocolate will take your tongue to every corner, making a paradise within your mouth. Being a not-so-chocolate-person, the chocolate-flavor was so intense that I can hardly withstand. No it was not sweet, in fact, it leaves a bitter-note on your palates. As you dig in further, you will be surprised with a pearl-like Chocolate-Truffle which can be the best thing to melt in your mouth! However, I thought this dessert lacked of depth and can be monotonous if a person were to savor it entirely on his/her own.
I was especially enamored for this wobbly Panna Cotta (Rm 8.50), it was gloriously good. It comes with a generous amount of topping- Mixed Berries. This delicate and well-chilled Panna Cotta is definitely a noteworthy choice for your sweet-indulgence. It possesses a very strong Vanilla flavor which I was told by the Chef that they have been using Vanilla Beans instead of Vanilla Essence; well, the difference can be rather obvious, is it not? The Vanilla flavor was so intense that it lingers in the tongue and the best part was, it was not too sweet, just the way I like.
Do not harbor high expectations on their Portuguese Tart (Rm 1.50 each), probably it was out of the oven for quite some time, it was not as crisp and warm the way I like. Despite the fact that Chef has taken the effort to heat it up for us but it was not the same anymore. However, the flavor and sweetness being perfectly alright, it could be the timing that matters. I reckon it should be good only if the tart is fresh from the oven.
