*U Desserts at Raja Uda has since closed down*
With more than 5 outlets in Southern Malaysia and 7 outlets country-wide, a renowned chain dessert cafe has finally set foot here in Penang. Tucked within the shop houses right opposite to Chung Ling Butterworth along Jalan Ong Yi How, U Desserts pride themselves by offering some inexpensive but delectable sweet treats. You might need to spend a little more time in picking your choice as their extensive menu has myriad of sweet treats await you. Ambiance was simple but comfortable although the service could be more attentive. An ideal place to satiate your cravings for desserts!
One of the much lauded items will be their Durian Pudding/ 榴莲布丁 (Rm 6.80), the flavor was so intense that this dessert will put many other durian desserts to shame. On top of the wobbly Pudding, a fresh Durian flesh will be topped, served with some Evaporated Milk for the smoother texture. If it was not that sweet, it will be one of the best Durian desserts that I've ever had. Definitely an item not to be missed by Durian lovers.
On the other hand, I was not quite impressed with their Hong Kong Double Milky/ 港式双皮乃 (Rm 4.80), it was smooth but it lacked of an element that impresses me. It tasted somewhat similar to those ordinary Steamed Eggs that one can easily prepare at home. Probably an interesting twist like Ginger, Green Tea could be added to the dessert. The dessert was sweet but it was not overly so, just that it lacked of an extra boost to the other wise, predicted flavor.
I was especially enamored for their Mango and Pomelo in Sago Sweet Soup/ 杨枝甘露 (Rm 9.80). This refreshing well-chilled dessert is definitely the perfect item to quell the sweltering heat. The addition of the pulpy Pomelo Pulps and perfectly ripen Mangoes was a delightful touch to the dessert. Every spoonful of the dessert carries a burst of the Mango essence while the Sago and Pomelo Pulps added give another layered dimension to the dish. A worth-trying item at U Desserts.
