Xiao Fei Yang (小肥羊) Steamboat @ Tanjung Tokong, Penang.

The eye-catchy green-colored bungalow along the bustling street of Jalan Pantai Molek is one of the latest steamboat places in Penang. Ever since its opening a couple months back, Xiao Fei Yang (小肥羊) has garnered quite a lot of regular patrons. Despite choices for the soups are limited but there will surely be something for every palate with their comprehensive menu. However, the ventilation system in the restaurant does not seem to be working quite well, in which the permeating smell (of the soups) might not be comfortable for some. My overall experience with the food was not as satisfying as I would have hoped, I am not sure if I will return to this place but if I do, it will be more for novelty than absolute taste. The ample parking space right in front of the place is, however, free of charge.

Dual-Soup Base/ 鸳鸯锅底 (Rm 25)

Xiao Fei Yang charges for their soup; should you go for their Hot and Spicy Soup only, it will be Rm 27 and Rm 23 for their Herbal Soup. Yes, there are only 2 types of soup available. I was not quite convinced with the taste of the soup, it was not quite authentic in terms of Sze Chuan Hot and Spicy Soup, maybe they are trying to localize the flavor to suit the local palates but it was not quite successful in my opinion. The soup lacked of one of the most important elements- Sze Chuan Peppercorns, which is one of the key reasons for the "Ma" or the numb-sensation. Also, the soup was not spicy enough to be known as Hot and Spicy Soup, oh, did I mention about their special rule? Should you wish to go for "extra hot", you will have to pay an additional Rm 3.

The Herbal Soup tasted alright but the few of us felt the soup was "too flavorful", presence of MSG? Not sure. Onto the meat, the Beef and Pork Belly were thinly sliced that the Pork Belly almost melted in the pot after a few seconds! I was quite disappointed with the measly portion of meat too.
