**CaLèFè Hauz Gastro Cafe has since ceased its business operations.**
Nestled within the new commercial building- Prangin Terrace, along Prangin Road Ghaut; CaLèFè Hauz Gastro Cafe has just opened its door few days ago. CaLèFè Hauz Gastro Cafe is a unique cafe that defies convention, its specialties are all pork-related. It could be a good news for pork lovers but it might not be too welcoming for those who do not take pork. I, for one, not being a fan of pork, find it hard for me to order. Fortunately, there are still some dishes without pork, though very limited. Seating is limited at the cafe and might not be too accommodating for larger groups, be sure to make advance reservation if you are planning for some occasions here. The cafe exudes a very old-school feeling, especially with antiques adorning the walls and old songs as background; not a bad place to spend your afternoon.
A not so common dish here in Penang- Bachelorette (Rm 7), Buttermilk Pancake served with Maple Syrup, Butter, Raisins and Almond flakes. My dining partner thought the texture was good (otherwise for me). I could not agree with the overly soft texture. I thought they should serve the Maple Syrup and Butter separately too, for those who do not have a sweet-tooth or prefer less-buttery flavor. On the other hand, the Pork Bacon was over-cooked until it was too tough to cut through, also, a tad salty on its own. Fortunately, the addition of Almond flakes and Raisins gave the Pancake a slightly different dimension in texture.
Twin Benedict (Rm 10) was a little less successful. Poached Eggs served on top of a toasted Baguette and drenched with Hollandaise sauce with a touch of freshly grounded Pepper. The real draw of the dish here is the addition of Mustard, which gives the dish an acidic tinge. However, the disappointment was the lack of Pork Bacon (it was stated on the menu). We did manage to ask the staff and apparently they have missed it out. Also, I thought it will be better for them to replace Baguette with English Muffin, more filling and of course, better in texture. This dish has the potential but some fine-tuning is definitely needed.
