Being an ardent fan of Koay Teow Th'ng, I am always on the look out for a bowl of good yet inexpensive Koay Teow Th'ng. My recent quest has brought me to this place- Xin He Coffee Shop. Tucked within a shop houses along a narrow Service Road off Anson Road, the unpretentious coffee shop serves two types of food only- Duck Meat Koay Teow Th'ng and Chicken Rice. The place has certainly gathered an appreciate following of regulars. Despite not mind-blowing, this place could be an ideal place for those who needs a quick fix on Koay Teow Th'ng without putting a dent on the wallet.
Xin He Cafe's Duck Meat Koay Teow Th'ng (Rm 3 for small, Rm 4 for large) comes in a clear broth which was lightly seasoned, it was light and easy on the palate. No, not that broth did not register any flavors at all but it carries a very mild meaty flavor as compared to others. Nevertheless, it works well with the silky smooth Koay Teow/ Flat Rice Noodles and some julienned Duck Meat, with an extra fine touch of Pork Lards. You should avoid the place if you are someone who prefers bold flavors. While not outstanding nor mind-blowing, this is the type of comfort food that I can eat on a regular basis.
Like many other Koay Teow Th'ng stalls, you may find some Duck Webbed Feet and Duck Wings (Rm 3), which were perfectly cooked till fork-tender, little effort was necessary to detach the meat from the bones. Thumbs up for this though.
