A cafe in the morning, restaurant at noon and a bar during evenings, Basement 6 serves different menu depending on the time. The outdoor alfresco dining area allows diners to dine amid the greens while the indoor of the restaurant is fully-conditioned. We visited the place on a fine morning, thus, we picked the alfresco dining area. It was a windy and chilly morning, we did not feel warm but it may be otherwise on a sultry afternoon. The standalone air conditioners and ceiling fans are evidences that the place does not intend to induce perspiration for diners. Choices may be limited on mornings and it is advisable for you to pay your visit on afternoon (unless you are looking for Breakfast menu of course). We had a pretty bad experience on our visit and we wondered if the meal did not go right because we did not order the right dishes but we reckon going for their Afternoon-menu may be a wiser choice. Basement 6 can be found next to Irrawady Fine Foods at Chow Thye Road.
Egg Benedict (Rm 10) was a huge disappointment. The photos would have explained why. The poached Eggs (or should it be named as Hard Boiled Egg?) were overcooked, the Hollandaise sauce was incorrectly prepared. It was somewhat similar to Mayonnaise in lieu of Hollandaise sauce. The English Muffin, was stale and dry. The only item edible was the Bacon. It could be the worst Egg Ben I have ever had. I rest my case.
Another joke disappointment- Sausage wrapped with Bacon and Hams (Rm 17). Foot long Sausage swaddled in Bacon/ Ham and Pineapple Strips and baked with grated Cheese. The dish lacked of sincerity, ordinary Sausage with ordinary Ham and Bacon. No, not that it was inedible but we did not find the dish worth the price.
