Expect a smorgasbord of traditional Malay dishes along with some specialties from the culinary team of The Eatery such as Tempoyak, home-made Sambal Belacan, Ayam Masak Merah, Nasi Briyani Kambing and so on.
Keropok and Papadom
Sambal Cincaluk
Sambal Hijau
Sambal Tempoyak
Ulam- Ulaman Serantau/ Petai/ Kacang Botol/ Jering/ Ulam Raja
The Eatery plays the seasonal card well by offering Sambal Tempoyak, which is hardly seen in Penang. The fermented Durian possesses a strong acidity with a pleasingly mild Durian flavor and agreeable amount of spiciness. Their home-made Sambal Belacan was equally delectable. It was hot but not lip-numbingly hot and should be easily acceptable by all range of diners. Another thing we like about their assorted condiments was all of them were delicately salted, none of them were overpowering or overshadowing the fresh greens.
Kerabu Kacang Botol
Lemang with Serunding Daging and Serunding Ayam
Kerabu Ayam
Kerabu Selom
Kerabu Telur
Their Kerabu Ayam may be a little oily but their flavor was precisely calibrated, further enlivened with the use of Coriander. Kerabu Telur shared the same ingredients as Kerabu Ayam but it differs in terms of texture. The deep-fried Eggs were slightly resilient to the bite. The Serundings were great but the Lemang could be better with a chewier texture (I don't like my Glutinous Rice soft anyway).
Ayam Masak Gulai
Tempura Squid
Ayam Rendang
Kari Ikan
Terung Belacan
Daging Apor
Tempura Prawns
Daging Masak Kurma
Kai Lan Ikan Masin
We were pleased with the spread of Rendangs and Curries available. We especially enjoyed the Daging Apor and Ayam Rendang. The Beef has the perfect ratio of fats to lean meat, which gives the meat a chewy yet meaty bite, further enhanced with the deftly seasoned Herbs and Spices. The Ayam Rendang was good on its own but even better to go with some Rice, to slightly tone down the saltiness but we love the robust flavors within the curry.
Sup Ekor
Bubur Lambuk Four Points
Mee Soto
I was excited to see the hefty chunk of meat hidden under the Sup Ekor but the soup was rather a disappointment. It was somewhat oily and lacked of flavors from Herbs and Spices while the Bubur Lambuk was too thick to my liking. The broth of Mee Soto, however, impressed us with the light and mellow sweetness.
Bubur Cha Cha
Assorted Malay Kuih
Cheese Cake
Kuih Lapis
Assorted Fruits
Soya Bean/ Air Bandung/ Air Sirap
The Eatery was a little weak for their dessert corner. While the range of traditional Malay Kuihs was pretty standard-average, we thought some refinements might be needed for the Bubur Cha Cha. They should replace the Jelly with something else, for a crunchier and more refreshing bite. The Fruit section was somewhat interesting though, we had some seedless Grapes, Red Dragon Fruit, Buah Luku and Rambutan (apart from the usual spread).
