The long-anticipated wait is over as AEON Mall at Alma (of Bukit Mertajam) has finally opened its doors to the public and amongst the new spade of tenants that have moved in, Vivo Pizza is definitely one of the worth-checking out ones. The well-established Pizza joint has more than 12 outlets in the country and this is the first outlet in Northern Malaysia. As the name of the restaurant would have hinted, Vivo Pizza specializes in serving Pizzas, ranging from the commonly seen savory Pizzas to the uncommonly found sweet dessert Pizza. Prices are pretty standard-average but Vivo Pizza stands out by offering Pizzas that are 33% larger than its competitors. While I have yet to try the food at other branches but there were some hits and misses during our visit; I could not tell if it was the usual way how they did it or the fact that they have yet to stabilize their operations. Nevertheless, if you are in the vicinity and have a sweet tooth, be sure to check out their dessert pizza. Vivo Pizza is strategically located near the main entrance (ground floor) of AEON Mall, facing The Cruises Steak House and a stone's throw distance away from Jusco.
There are 3 sizes available (menu is available on their website), we had this super-sized 14" Prawn Pizza (Thin Crust- Rm 35.90) which should be good enough for 3 person. It consists of Capsicum, Shitake Mushrooms, Mozzarella Cheese and jeweled with some Fresh Prawns while the base was lightly spread with their Special Sauce. We love the crust for being thin and not heavy, however, the measly amount of Cheese left us underwhelmed. We were expecting to see globules of Cheeses but unfortunately, we were disappointed and had to sprinkle on extra Cheese Powder for a cheesier bite. Their Special Sauce, on the other hand, was nothing to shout over.
The 10" Thick Crust 'Around the World' (Rm 23.90) was yet, another disappointingly average dish. The texture was so dry and no, it was not cheesy at all. We thought more Chicken Bologna could be added for a meatier bite as we could barely taste the Chicken. Also, it was stated on the menu that it consists some Onion Rings but no, our search was to no avail.
We had their New York Fish N Chips (Rm 18.90) which was okay. Pristine white Dory Fillet battered and coated with Bread Crumbs, deep fried till perfection and served with Fries as well as Fresh Greens. It was a pretty standard-average dish and definitely nothing to shout over but we thought the portion could be slightly bigger for that price.
Seafood Spaghetti Aglio Olio (Rm 20.90) was a wiser option as compared to Fish N Chips. The Aglio Olio comes in a rather huge portion with generous amount of Seafood. Noodles were slightly overcooked but still at acceptable texture. It was delicately salted and brimming with flavors. However, my partner in crime thought that the dish was a littler hotter than expected. The heat-intolerant should avoid this dish.
Scene-stealer was the sweet ending- Blueberry Pizza with Vanilla Ice Cream (Rm 9.90) which was absolutely brilliant. Paper-thin Pizza lightly spread with Blueberry Jam and sprinkled crushed Peanuts and finished with a dollop of icy cold Vanilla Ice Cream. Spoon the Vanilla Ice Cream and to enjoy with the Pizza, the combination was lip-smacking and we totally enjoyed it. The portion, however, is recommended for sharing as it may be a little too huge for one to finish it entirely. A must-try dessert if you are in the vicinity.
Iced Lemon Tea (Rm 4.90)
