Continuing the Ice Cream trend that hits Penang lately, the congested tourist area in the heartland of Georgetown saw an opening of a new sciency ice creamery- Ice Estate, a Liquid Nitrogen Ice cream specialist. The cafe's menu is entirely dedicated to sweet treats, not only the chilled treats but a range of Waffles either (they were not available on my visit though). The place has a standard cafe setting but find the seats on the second floor so one needs to traipse the steep flight of stairs before securing a seat... though choices are pretty limited but we thought it could be a cozy, quiet place to chill with friends. Ice Estate Ice Cream Cafe is still new and many items were not available on our visit so it's still early to judge; a second visit perhaps. Find Ice Estate at Victoria Street, towards Prangin Road Ghaut instead of Weld Quay.
Ice Estate seemed to be quite generous with the portion from what we noticed from our order- Matcha Ice Cream (Rm 13). Flecks of Corn Flakes were added together with the concoction of Milk and Matcha before Liquid Nitrogen and as a result of that, the end product was not as smooth as expected. The Matcha flavor was detectable but not as rich as we would have hoped, the vegetal flavor was in fact, a little artificial. It tasted like an ordinary Matcha Ice Cream that we could get elsewhere, less-creamier version. We also thought the icy treat was monotonous, the aforementioned (on the menu) Marshmallows were missing in action either.
