Restaurants serving Thai food are rather ubiquitous in Penang due to geographical location; though Penangites have professed their love for Thai food but certain restaurants' menus can be uninspiring and look alike. While their menu may seem no different from a standard full-fledged Thai restaurant, Thai Tanic excels in terms of pricing. They serve real deal and family-styled Thai food with certain Chinese-influenced Chu Char dishes but all are priced competitively and reasonably. As for now... part of their opening promotion, their Set Packages are worth a look.... Thai Tanic Restaurant is next to K Food Korean Restaurant at Elit Avenue.

Pad Thai
The indecisive may opt for their Opening Promotion Set Package for Rm 13.90; there are 5 different Sets available... featuring a vast selection of their signature dishes including Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad Thai, Tom Yam and various kinds of appetizers. We had their Pad Thai Set which includes a Pad Thai (main), Tom Yum Seafood and Papaya Salad, with a Lemongrass Drink. The Papaya Salad was standard-average, we thought it was one-dimensional, more crunchy elements should be added in for the contrast in texture. The Tom Yum on the other hand, was delicious. It has a balanced medley of sweet, sour, spicy notes with sleek Seafood sweetness. The dish that took the center spotlight however, goes to their Pad Thai. The dish possessed the quintessential Wok Hei (a delightful charred aroma) with a hint of Tomato Ketchup. In a recent trip to Bangkok, we learnt from Chef Ohm that authentic traditional Pad Thai should include Tomato Ketchup but too bad the spiciness was a little soft to our liking; otherwise, this would be a perfect dish.
Meal ender- Tab Tim Krob (Rm 5) did not manage to impress us... we thought the texture was a little too gooey to our liking and the Coconut Cream was too diluted. The texture should be firm and the Coconut Cream should complement the smoothness. You may skip this and try other available desserts.
