L Kitchen (李月香- 粥。面。饭) @ Campbell Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Right smack in the middle of Chinatown, L Kitchen is a newly opened Chinese restaurant right next to the entrance to Chowrasta Market. The facade does not seem to give any hint on what could be offered and the fact that the place is named "L Kitchen" gives more suspense. The dirty minded would think of something else but we reckon L may refer to the surname "Lee". In L Kitchen, there is a wide variety of Chinese-offering, ranging from Noodle-dishes to Rice-dishes or even porridge/ congee; at unbeatable prices. The menu seems to carry traces of Cantonese-influences but with a blend of local elements too (such as Tom Yum). 

Spicy and Sour Fish Head Noodles (Rm 9.50)

Chicken Congee (Rm 7.50)

Many items were not available on our visit (we visited in late afternoon), we settled for the server's recommendation- Spicy and Sour Fish Head Noodles and Chicken Congee. The former dish comes in a big portion, with the broth struck our palate with a jolting acidic, followed by a discernible heat. It was very appetizing at first but it gets flatter towards the end. The noodles were carefully cooked to the right texture and the Fried Fish was delectable; not too shabby for such an affordable price tag. 

Chicken Congee was most comforting, it was served to us piping hot. Traces of Fu Chok/ Soy Beancurd were noticeable and strings of shredded Chicken Meat can be found too. On top of the Congee-foundation, chunks of tender-succulent Chicken Thigh were available too. Nothing spectacular, pretty straight-forward but comforting dish. 

Butterfly Pea Barley (Rm 3) and Pumpkin Barley (Rm 3.50)
