Vangohh Eminent is definitely one of the most hidden luxury hotels in Penang; just inland from Bukit Mertajam, approximately 15 minute-drive from the heart of Bukit Mertajam, the secret grandeur boasts over a huge space at the far end of Machang Bubuk. Step in the hotel and you will be welcomed by the retro-chic interior decor with a little heavy industrial element; apart from the themed stylish rooms and suites, the hotel offers promising indulgence. One of the restaurants housed in Vangohh Eminent is Hutong, a restaurant that offers a fusion menu with slight emphasis on Chinese delights; prices are steeper than usual but the relaxed atmosphere with soft background music is most suitable for casual meet ups and gatherings.
Direction: From Bukit Mertajam, drive along Jalan Kulim until you find the entrance to Taman Machang Bubuk, turn in and drive straight until you hit a T-junction. Turn right and go straight, you will find Vangohh Eminent on your right shortly.

Spicy Spaghetti with King Prawn (Rm 28)
Fresh Fruits and Seafood Fried Rice (Rm 25)
Quattro Fromaggi (Rm 32)
Champagne Chicken Box (Rm 19)
Waffle with Ice Cream (Rm 18)
We were most amused by the playful combination of fresh fruits into Fried Rice, particularly Apple, Pineapple, Kiwi and Strawberry... well, technically, only Apples and Pineapples... others were just... garnish. Fruits aside, the Fried Rice was skillfully cooked. Every grain was packed with the delightful charred aroma (wok hei) and eggy essence. The Pizza was alright, though the Pizza base can be softer and they can be more generous with the Cheese, the overall flavor combo was safe (4 types of Cheeses).
Spicy Spaghetti with King Prawn on the other hand was a disappointment. The pasta was overcooked and the flavors were weak. It was merely stir-fried Pasta with Garlic and Chili flakes topped with the King Prawn; the seafood sweetness from the crustacean did not stand out unfortunately. The Champagne Chicken was utter crap, the dressing was horrible with a peculiar sourness and the inner part of the drummet was slightly undercooked. The meal-ender was okay but definitely not the best Waffle around.

Looks tasty. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place, such an elaborate menu. I guess it's fusion?
ReplyDeleteI always like the name Hutong and this interior looks like some Hutong places in Beijing. Looking at the opening hours, they sure attract many young crowds! Yay! I wish they have one in KL that opens till 3.00am.
